Tine 2.0 - Brazilian Administration relies on Open Source

Not just the summerly temperatures brought some of Copacabana into Hamburgs Speicherstadt last week, a good deal more came from the visit of three Brazilian Tine 2.0 developers on behalf of the federal agency. Sounds interesting - and it was! For quite some time now Brazilian authorities and companies rely on open source software in their country. Also the administration and federal agency follow suit already to ensure the independence from other countries.

That is one of the main reasons why the IT company Serpro was entrusted to evaluate a suitable open source groupware solution - at first for use in the presidential office. Stipulated for this project is our open source groupware Tine 2.0, because Serpro themselves are using our software for several years to provide a central groupware service for their 10.000 employees.

During the week full of workshops and a lot of fun the goal was to conjointly talk about the use of open source software in Brazil, to deepen the parnership between Metaways and Serpro and to attune which of Serpro's enhancements might become regular components of Tine 2.0.

Further highlights of the eventful week were a visit and interview with golem.de in Berlin and a Brazilian evening with open source interested guests, colleagues and lots of Caipirinha. More about the use of open source software in Brazil and the interview with golem.de will follow soon.
